NeoStrata

In The early 1970’s , after years of skin care research, Drs. Eugene Van Scott and Ruey Yu discovered the benefits of alphahydroxys (AHAS) … and established NeoStrata in the late 1980’s. Today, these very same doctors are joined by other skilled researchers in developing NeoStrata’s unique non-prescription skin care products. New formulations that provide excellent benefits for the health and overall appearance of the skin are continually being discovered.

Many people want to know exactly what AHAs are, and why they work. Commonly called "fruit acids" because they occur naturally in fruits, vegetables and sugar cane, the many AHA products on the market contain chemical compounds, many of which have been derived from natural fruit acids, which help skin appear younger. NeoStrata has discovered that just the right formulation of ingredients, all working together and balancing each other, can produce the ultimate in desired results, while minimizing irritation and discomfort. Because your skin isn’t like your co-worker’s or friend’s, NeoStrata has developed an array of products that fit your needs perfectly.

Leading physicians worldwide have praised the cosmetic benefits of AHAs. Smoother hands and feet, softer lips, and glowing, more radiant skin all over the face and body are evidence of AHA effectiveness. AHAs may also reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

A new and exciting AHA (actually a PHA or polyhydroxy) called gluconolactone (or G4) has recently been developed by NeoStrata researchers. This gentle yet powerful new skin care ingredient, a second generation AHA, has all the benefits of traditional AHAs without the occasional stinging. Now consumers can take advantage of eye creams, lip conditioners, and facial cleansers that powerfully but gently work wonders.

To physicians around the globe, the NeoStrata name denotes quality and sophisticated skin care technology.

THE SKINNY ON YOUR SKIN

Before deciding on a skin care regimen, it may be helpful to understand how the skin renews itself.

You may have been called thin-skinned in the past, but there’s a physical reason why that’s actually true. Your skin is only two to four millimeters thick (that’s only 1/8 inch). However, because it is your protective barrier to the outside environment, it’s subjected to an onslaught of environmental, physical and chemical challenges. Dry air, sunlight, abrasives, harsh cleansers, strong astringents, and topical medications are just some of the culprits. The good news is that skin has the amazing built-in ability to renew itself. The outer layer of healthy skin renews itself approximately every 4-6 weeks.

There are three main layers of the skin: the epidermis, the dermis and the subcutaneous tissue. The epidermis is the outermost layer of the skin, and is therefore chiefly responsible for providing the skin with its essential barrier function. The epidermis is made up of many layers. The innermost layer continually produces new cells which travel outward through the outermost layer of epidermis called the stratum corneum. The cells of this layer are then eventually exfoliated at the rate of a single cell layer per day.

The health and beauty of the skin depend largely on the good health of the outermost layers of the skin. Older-looking , rough skin can result from slowing of the cellular renewal process. Also, as we age, the epidermis thins and the dermal layer loses its plumpness, resulting in skin that appears lax (loose). Over time, exposure to sunlight stimulates production of darker patches in the skin (more melanin is produced and the stratum corneum is retained) causing for some what is known as age spots or sun spots.

To make matters worse, dry rough skin, caused by an imbalance of hydration and normal cell renewal, affects the overall appearance of the skin. And to top it all, fine lines and wrinkles appear, making us look older than we feel.

Neostrata products can help. They are specially formulated to stimulate cell renewal and therefore speed up the exfoliation of the dull upper layers of the skin. When the new cells are revealed, your skin will appear smoother and clearer, more like that of younger skin. AHAs and PHAs provide moisturization to skin, making it feel softer and smoother. They help rid the skin of accumulated cellular debris which can clog pores. Most importantly, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles may be diminished.

Neostrata products can cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize your skin…making it - and YOU- look beautiful and feel rejuvenated.

BEFORE SELECTING THE NEOSTRATA REGIMEN, MOST APPRPRIATE FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY SUIT, YOU SHOULD UNDERSTAND MORE ABOUT NEOSTRATA’S AHAS AND PHAS.

Q: What is glycolic acid?

A: Glycolic acid is an alphahydroxy (AHA), an ingredient in most NeoStrata products. In its natural state, glycolic acid is found in sugar cane juice. Chemically, it is the smallest AHA molecule and is very effective in penetrating the outer layer of skin. Numerous scientific and clinical studies show that glycolic acid formulations, when used as suggested, result in significant improvements in rough and dry skin; oily and acne-prone skin; fine lines and wrinkles; and unevenly pigmented skin.

Q: Will glycolic acid irritate my skin?

A: NeoStrata products are used under the guidance of expert dermatologists, plastic surgeons and other clinicians. Some people may experience mild stinging when first beginning treatment. Physicians will often recommend one product at the beginning of treatment, and make changes as treatment progresses in order to achieve maximum results. We recommend you discuss your condition and expectations for results with your physician and choose products accordingly.

Q: What is a PHA? What is G4?

A: Polyhydroxy acids or PHAs are an important second generation of alphahydroxys (AHAs). The particular name for the chemical molecule with the code name G4 is gluconolactone. The G4 technology, developed exclusively by NeoStrata, is very exciting for all ages and types of patients. G4 is derived from a naturally occurring sugar acid found in your skin and, because of its chemical structure, is very hydrating. This translates to an ability to highly moisturize the skin. Additionally, because G4 formulations penetrate the skin slowly and consistently, people who experience stinging, itching, burning or redness (so called "sensitive skin" types) can experience the many known benefits of AHAs without any fear of the irritation or discomfort that may occur with traditional AHAs. This "gentle giant" is especially useful for the sensitive skin parts of everyone’s birthday suits, such as around the eyes and on the lips. All the same benefits of smoothness in skin tone and texture, and a younger-looking more radiant skin can be seen with continued use of PHAs.

Q: What is the difference between AHAs and PHAs, and regular moisturizers?

A: Many regular moisturizers hydrate the skin simply by adding water to the skin or by trapping water in the skin. AHAs and PHAs not only attract and bind water, but they actually help the skin moisturize itself by correcting abnormal cellular exfoliation, which is a primary cause of dry skin. Cracking, flaking and peeling of the skin will be improved through the use of AHA and PHA formulations.

Q: What is the difference between NeoStrata products and products such as Retin-A and Renova?

A: Retin-A and Renova are prescription medications that contain Vitamin A acid (retinoic acid) and are used in the treatment of acne and photoaging. These drugs are only available by prescription. NeoStrata products contain AHAs and PHAs and are available without a prescription. They have been shown to improve skin texture and tone, and can be expected to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Unlike products containing retinoic acid which can be drying and irritating to the skin, NeoStrata products are very moisturizing and essentially non-irritating.
